Adventures of Superman #425

Adventures of Superman #425, released in February 1987, occupies a significant place in comic book history as a direct bridge between the pre-Crisis DC Universe and the modernized continuity established by John Byrne. Following the massive overhaul in the Man of Steel limited series, this issue was part of the effort to re-establish Superman’s grounded, human-focused narrative. It serves as a classic example of the transition era where the creative team sought to balance the character’s immense power with the personal stakes of his daily life in Metropolis.

The issue features cover art and interior work by Jerry Ordway, who was instrumental in defining the visual language of the Superman titles during the late 1980s. Ordway’s style was lauded for its clean lines and a sense of dynamic realism that helped ground the character for a contemporary audience. The story, written by Marv Wolfman, focuses on themes of identity and the challenges of dual life, reflecting the editorial direction of the time to make Superman feel more accessible to readers who had grown accustomed to the grittier tone of 1980s comics.
