Ajin: Demi-Human Complete #1

Ajin: Demi-Human, known in Japan as Ajin, is a dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Gamon Sakurai. The series began serialization in Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine in 2012, emerging as a grim exploration of immortality, societal ostracization, and the ethics of human experimentation. The design aesthetic is characterized by sharp, high-contrast black-and-white ink work that emphasizes the visceral, often unsettling nature of the demi-human characters and their invisible, lethal entities known as IBMs.

The first volume serves as an introduction to the protagonist, Kei Nagai, whose life is upended after he discovers he is an Ajin following a fatal accident. The work was received favorably for its relentless pacing and its complex antagonist, Satou, who remains one of the more chilling figures in modern seinen manga. While originally illustrated by Tsuina Miura for the first chapter, Sakurai assumed full creative control thereafter, refining the detailed, grounded art style that became the hallmark of the series' long-running success.
