Amazing X-Men #4

Amazing X-Men #4, published in February 2014, is part of a series launched as a direct follow-up to the 'Battle of the Atom' crossover event. Marvel Comics commissioned this series to focus on a lighter, high-adventure tone compared to the darker storylines dominating the X-Men line at the time, specifically reuniting the original X-Men cast to rescue Nightcrawler from the afterlife. The creative team featured writer Jason Aaron and artist Ed McGuinness, whose work helped define the series' accessible, cinematic aesthetic.

The design of the issue continues the bold, kinetic style Ed McGuinness is known for, characterized by exaggerated anatomy and dynamic layouts that emphasize action and character expression. This run was received by readers and critics as a nostalgic yet fresh return to classic team dynamics. By centering the narrative on the camaraderie between characters like Wolverine and Nightcrawler, Aaron and McGuinness aimed to ground the fantastical elements of the story in the deep emotional history of the franchise.
