Animal Man #25

Animal Man #25 was published by DC Comics in July 1990 as part of the series' acclaimed run under writer Grant Morrison. This issue served as the conclusion to the 'Deus Ex Machina' arc, a meta-fictional exploration where the protagonist, Buddy Baker, discovers he is a character in a comic book and confronts his own writer. The story was a seminal work of the late 1980s and early 1990s, pushing the boundaries of traditional superhero narratives by integrating post-modern philosophy and breaking the fourth wall.

The issue featured cover art and interior illustrations by Chas Truog and Doug Hazlewood, who maintained the grounded, gritty aesthetic that defined Morrison's tenure on the title. The design and narrative approach were met with significant critical praise, establishing the series as a cult classic. It is widely remembered for its philosophical depth and its role in helping transition the superhero genre toward the more experimental, adult-oriented tone that would soon characterize the Vertigo imprint.
