Annihilation Modern Era Epic Collection: Conquest Prologue #1

Annihilation: Conquest Prologue #1 was published by Marvel Comics in 2007, serving as the gateway to the larger Annihilation: Conquest event. This storyline emerged from the critical and commercial success of the original 2006 Annihilation saga, which effectively revitalized Marvel's dormant cosmic character roster. The prologue was created to bridge the gap between the end of the first war and the subsequent technological threat posed by the Phalanx, setting the stage for characters like Nova and Star-Lord to take on expanded roles in the Marvel Universe.

The issue was written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, who were instrumental in shaping the modern tone of Marvel's cosmic line, and featured art by Mike Perkins. The creative team aimed to maintain the high-stakes, cinematic intensity established by the preceding event while pivoting toward a more covert, suspense-driven narrative style. It was well-received by readers who appreciated the consistent world-building and the seamless transition into the ongoing Conquest arc, cementing the duo's reputation as architects of this specific era of Marvel lore.
