Ashita Kubi ni Narisō #7

Ashita Kubi ni Narisō, translated roughly as Likely to be Fired Tomorrow, is a manga series by the celebrated Japanese artist Hideo Azuma. The series emerged from the unique cultural landscape of the early 1980s, reflecting the anxieties and surreal pressures of contemporary Japanese office culture. It represents a significant departure from mainstream works of the era, showcasing Azuma’s signature dark, deadpan humor and loose, expressive line work that helped define the aesthetic of the underground manga scene.

The seventh issue continues the series' episodic exploration of workplace alienation and personal absurdity. Azuma, a pioneer of the 'lolicon' and 'nonsense' manga genres, designed these installments to subvert traditional narrative structures. While the series was originally released in a modest format, it eventually gained critical recognition for its influence on the development of personal, autobiographical manga and remains a sought-after relic for scholars of 20th-century Japanese pop culture.
