Baby Garfield #3

Baby Garfield #3 was published during the mid-1980s as part of a trend in comics and animation to capitalize on the immense commercial success of Jim Davis's Garfield character by reimagining the protagonist in his younger years. This spin-off series leaned into the lighter, more whimsical aesthetic of the era's newspaper strip humor, aiming to capture a younger demographic while maintaining the dry wit that made the original Garfield a cultural phenomenon.

The visual direction for the Baby Garfield line was handled by the Paws, Inc. creative team, who adapted the character's familiar cynicism into a more soft-edged, mischievous persona suitable for younger readers. While the series was a natural extension of the licensing juggernaut, it occupies a specific niche for completists and fans of 1980s comic iconography, representing an effort to diversify the Garfield brand into the growing market for youth-oriented comic books.
