Baby Garfield #1

Baby Garfield #1 was published in 1984 by Marvel Comics under their Star Comics imprint, a line specifically established to appeal to younger readers by licensing popular characters from television and newspaper strips. This issue emerged during the height of the character's mainstream cultural saturation in the mid-1980s, capitalizing on the immense success of the Garfield comic strip created by Jim Davis.

The creative direction for the Baby Garfield series was intended to translate the cynical humor of the original strip into a more whimsical, juvenile context. While Jim Davis provided the overarching brand oversight, the internal production was handled by various Marvel staff artists and writers tasked with maintaining a simplified, friendly aesthetic that distinguished the title from the more complex narratives found in standard superhero comics.
