Bad Thoughts #1

Bad Thoughts #1 is a seminal work of independent underground comix, created by the artist Ivan Brunetti in the early 1990s. Emerging from the self-publishing culture of that era, the series is deeply rooted in the tradition of alternative comics, which sought to push the boundaries of the medium beyond mainstream superhero tropes. Brunetti crafted this work to explore themes of profound melancholy, existential dread, and the darker, often uncomfortable fringes of the human psyche, presenting them through a minimalist aesthetic.

The visual style of the issue is distinct, characterized by stark black-and-white lines that mirror the bleakness of its narrative content. Brunetti aimed to strip away visual artifice, allowing the biting, cynical, and often disturbing humor to take center stage. Upon its release, the comic was met with critical appreciation from the alternative arts scene for its uncompromising vision and its brave, albeit unsettling, psychological depth, eventually securing its place as a cult classic within the independent publishing circuit.
