Batman Annual #10

Batman Annual #10 was published by DC Comics in 1986, emerging during a pivotal era for the character as the industry shifted toward more mature, psychologically complex storytelling. This issue is particularly noted for featuring the story 'Death of a Hero,' written by Mike W. Barr with art by Jerry Bingham. The narrative serves as a poignant exploration of the Batman mythos, focusing on the character's internal struggles and his evolving relationship with his allies and the city of Gotham.

The creative direction for this annual leaned into the gritty, atmospheric aesthetic that defined mid-eighties DC comics. Jerry Bingham’s illustrations were designed to emphasize the brooding, nocturnal nature of the Caped Crusader, moving away from the more campy representations of previous decades. Upon its release, the issue was well-received by readers who appreciated the focus on character-driven drama and the elevated, somber tone that would soon become a hallmark of the modern Batman era.
