Battle of the Planets #1

Battle of the Planets #1 was published by Gold Key Comics in 1979, serving as a tie-in to the American television adaptation of the Japanese anime series Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Produced by Sandy Frank Entertainment, the comic was intended to capitalize on the Saturday morning cartoon's popularity by introducing the adventures of G-Force to a broader comic book audience during a period when space-opera themes were seeing a massive resurgence in Western pop culture.

The issue features artwork and storytelling that sought to replicate the high-stakes, futuristic aesthetic of the televised series, blending superhero tropes with science-fiction motifs. While the adaptation was often noted for its heavily edited and localized narrative compared to the original Japanese source material, the comic book served as a standard entry in Gold Key's lineup of licensed media properties and remains a notable artifact of the cross-media marketing strategies employed in the late 1970s.
