Where it came from
Boule et Bill, created by Jean Roba in 1959 for the weekly comics magazine Spirou, centers on the everyday life of a young boy and his cocker spaniel. The series became a cornerstone of Franco-Belgian comics, celebrated for its gentle humor, focus on family dynamics, and Roba's expressive, fluid art style. The character dynamics were inspired by Roba's own life, featuring his wife and daughter as the human archetypes for the domestic antics that define the series.
This specific volume is part of 'La collection Roba', a dedicated re-release effort designed to curate the classic strips into a cohesive, high-quality archival format. By gathering these stories, the collection aims to preserve Roba's legacy and his evolution as an illustrator, highlighting his masterful use of gag-a-day pacing and his ability to convey profound emotion through simple, kinetic line work. It remains a definitive reference for scholars and fans of the medium, cementing Roba’s status as a master of the ligne claire tradition and its more expressive counterparts.
