Box Office Poison #16

Box Office Poison, written and illustrated by Alex Robinson, was a seminal independent comic series published between 1996 and 2001. Issue number 16 arrived during the latter half of the series' run, a period when Robinson’s sprawling, character-driven narrative about the lives and aspirations of young adults in New York City had gained significant critical momentum. The series was designed to capture the mundane, often humorous, and occasionally poignant struggles of creative twenty-somethings, drawing influence from the realistic, dialogue-heavy traditions of underground comics and indie cinema.

Robinson utilized a clean, accessible black-and-white art style to ground the characters in their urban environment, moving away from the superhero tropes that dominated the industry at the time.
