Where it came from
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Origin #3, released in 1999 by Dark Horse Comics, serves as the final installment of a miniseries that adapts the original, unproduced screenplay for the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer film. Written by Christopher Golden and Dan Brashers with art by Joe Bennett, this series was intended to reconcile the significant tonal differences between the movie and the television show by grounding the story in the creators' original, darker vision.
The adaptation was well-received by fans of the television series who were curious about the show's canonical roots. Joe Bennett’s illustrative style aimed to bridge the gap between the actors' likenesses from the 1992 film and the characterizations developed by Joss Whedon for the small screen, successfully presenting a 'lost' chapter of the Buffy mythology that remained faithful to the spirit of the franchise’s inception.
