Where it came from
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Origin #1, published by Dark Horse Comics in 1999, was created to present the original, unfilmed screenplay for the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer film. Written by series creator Joss Whedon, the script was heavily altered during the movie's production, and this comic series served as an official adaptation of his original vision for the story before the studio's extensive revisions were applied.
The comic was illustrated by Joe Bennett, who worked to align the visuals with the darker, more serious tone Whedon originally intended for the character. The project was well-received by fans of the television series who were curious about the tonal contrast between the campy 1992 film and the darker narrative arc established in the original script. It stands as an essential companion piece for those documenting the evolution of the Buffy mythos.
