Caliber Presents #23

Caliber Presents was a cornerstone anthology series published by Caliber Comics during the independent comic book boom of the 1990s. Launched in 1989, the series was designed to showcase a diverse range of talent, providing a platform for both emerging creators and established writers and artists to experiment with genres outside the mainstream superhero market. Issue 23 appeared during a period when the publisher was expanding its creative footprint, aiming to offer readers a mix of gothic horror, science fiction, and noir stories.

The editorial vision behind the series prioritized creative freedom, often acting as an incubator for series that would later spin off into their own standalone titles. The cover art and interior stories for this issue reflected the house style of the era, which favored gritty, atmospheric black-and-white ink work. While the series was never intended to reach mass-market dominance, it was well-received within the direct market for its eclectic nature and its role in fostering the careers of creators who became fixtures in the independent scene.
