Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix - Crushing Love #1

Released in 2024 by Ubisoft and IDW Publishing, this comic serves as a canonical expansion to the animated series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. The series was conceived as a stylized, neon-drenched exploration of Ubisoft’s extensive back catalog of intellectual properties, reimagined through an alternate-history 1990s dystopia. Issue number one functions as a bridge, deepening the lore surrounding the franchise’s protagonist, Dolph Laserhawk, and exploring the psychological dimensions of his complex relationships within the Eden corporation’s regime.

The creative direction for the book leans heavily into the synthwave aesthetic that defines the franchise, featuring character designs and thematic elements that echo the vibrant, high-contrast visual language of the show. Produced to satisfy fans seeking a more intimate look at the series’ expanded universe, the issue was received as a deliberate attempt to translate the rapid-fire editing and satirical tone of the animation into the sequential art medium. Its design highlights the collaborative effort to unify disparate video game worlds into a single, cohesive narrative landscape.
