Where it came from
Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew! #6 was published in 1982 by DC Comics as part of a lighthearted series that blended superhero tropes with anthropomorphic humor. Conceived by Roy Thomas and Scott Shaw, the series originated during an era when DC sought to expand its reach by revisiting characters from their 'Funny Stuff' era, grounding the absurd premise in a well-developed multiverse setting known as Earth-C.
The issue features artwork by Scott Shaw, whose signature dynamic style was heavily influenced by classic animation, specifically the work of Tex Avery and Chuck Jones. The creative team aimed to create a satirical yet sincere take on the comic book medium, using anthropomorphic animal puns and genre-bending plots that were received by readers as a refreshing departure from the darker, more serious storylines prevalent in mainstream comics at the time.
