Where it came from
Classic X-Men #19 was published by Marvel Comics in March 1988 as part of a series dedicated to reprinting early X-Men stories with updated framing sequences. This specific issue reproduces the narrative from X-Men #112, originally written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by John Byrne, which features the team's initial confrontation with Magneto in the Savage Land.
The issue is particularly noted for its new cover art by Art Adams and a backup story written by Chris Claremont with art by John Bolton. These additions were intended to provide deeper psychological context for the characters, reflecting the editorial commitment to enriching the X-Men mythos for a new generation of readers who had missed the original 1970s runs.
