Classic X-Men #22

Classic X-Men number 22 was published in May 1988 as part of a Marvel Comics series designed to reprint landmark X-Men stories from the 1970s. This specific issue features a reprint of Giant-Size X-Men number 1, the pivotal 1975 release that introduced the 'all-new, all-different' team including Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Thunderbird. The series served to introduce a new generation of readers to the foundational work of writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum, who revitalized the franchise after years of stagnation.

Beyond the reprint, this issue is notable for its original supplementary content, which was a hallmark of the Classic X-Men line. It includes a brand-new cover by Arthur Adams, an artist whose intricate style became synonymous with the aesthetic of the late 1980s X-Men universe. The issue also features an original back-up story written by Chris Claremont with art by John Bolton, designed to expand upon the character development of the newer recruits, further grounding these reprints in the continuity of the era.
