Conan the Barbarian #118

Conan the Barbarian #118 was published by Marvel Comics in January 1981, emerging during a period when the title remained a cornerstone of the company's sword-and-sorcery line. Written by Roy Thomas, who was instrumental in adapting Robert E. Howard’s character for the medium, this issue serves as a chapter in a long-running narrative that defined the bronze age of comics. The title itself capitalized on the sustained popularity of the pulp fiction genre, bridging the gap between Howard’s literary legacy and the burgeoning mainstream interest in fantasy storytelling.

The interior art for this period was crafted by John Buscema, a legendary artist whose work on Conan is widely considered definitive. Buscema sought to bring a grounded, muscular realism to the Hyborian Age, utilizing dynamic compositions that emphasized the visceral nature of the character's adventures. The series was well-regarded for its consistency and stylistic cohesion, securing its place as one of the most successful licensed properties of the era while maintaining a distinct aesthetic identity that influenced countless fantasy illustrators.
