Conan the Barbarian #129

Conan the Barbarian number 129 was published by Marvel Comics in December 1981, emerging during a prolific era for the company's licensed Robert E. Howard adaptations. This issue arrived as part of a long-running creative tenure that helped define the visual language of sword and sorcery in comic books during the late Bronze Age, maintaining the high-adventure tone that had made the series a staple of the Marvel lineup since the early 1970s.

The issue features artwork by Gil Kane, whose dynamic, anatomy-focused style was instrumental in establishing the visceral aesthetic of Conan’s battles. By this stage in the series, the creative team was focused on balancing the gritty, fatalistic nature of Howard’s original prose with the established editorial requirements of the Comics Code, resulting in a distinct visual narrative that was well-received by fans of the era's fantasy literature and comic readers alike.
