Conan the Barbarian #137

Conan the Barbarian number 137 was published by Marvel Comics in August 1982. This issue belongs to the long-running series that adapted Robert E. Howard’s iconic sword-and-sorcery protagonist for a comic book audience, a venture that began at Marvel in 1970 and helped define the medium's approach to fantasy storytelling. During the early 1980s, the title remained a cornerstone of Marvel’s output, benefiting from the sustained popularity of the character following the 1982 feature film.

The issue features the creative work of writer Bruce Jones and artist John Buscema. Buscema is widely regarded as one of the definitive Conan artists, known for his dynamic sense of anatomy and cinematic pacing. His work on this title was central to the aesthetic of Marvel’s bronze age, blending gritty realism with the pulpy intensity required for the Hyborian Age. The series was generally well-received by fans of the genre for its consistency in maintaining a mature, brooding tone that honored the original literary source material.
