Where it came from
Released in 1989, Dark Horse Presents #30 was part of the publisher's flagship anthology series that acted as a launchpad for experimental and creator-owned comics. During this era, Dark Horse utilized the title to showcase talent outside of the mainstream superhero establishment, offering a platform for serialized stories that prioritized artistic freedom and thematic variety over established intellectual property.
This specific issue is notable for its contributions to the Concrete series by Paul Chadwick and other anthology staples that defined the independent comics movement of the late eighties. The design and editorial direction were focused on high-quality black-and-white printing, a hallmark of the series intended to highlight line work and intricate illustration styles that were often lost in traditional color-printed newsprint comics of the time.
