Where it came from
Dark Horse Presents #56 was released in 1991 as part of the flagship anthology series that established Dark Horse Comics as a formidable presence in the independent publishing landscape. The series was designed to serve as a creative laboratory, providing a platform for both established legends and emerging creators to experiment with mature themes and diverse artistic styles outside the constraints of the traditional superhero genre.
This specific issue is notable for continuing the serial installments of popular series such as Concrete by Paul Chadwick and various experimental short features. The aesthetic reflected the bold, graphic sensibilities of the early nineties independent scene, focusing on narrative depth and artistic experimentation. It was well-received by the comics community for maintaining a consistent standard of quality that helped define the era's alternative comics movement.
