Where it came from
Dark Horse Presents #80 was released in 1993 as part of Dark Horse Comics' flagship anthology series, which served as a crucial platform for experimental storytelling and independent creators during the 1980s and 90s. The issue was published at a time when the series was gaining significant momentum for its role in bringing creator-owned properties and edgy, mature-themed narratives to the mainstream comics market.
The issue is notable for its contribution to the expanded universe of the Aliens franchise, featuring work by writers and artists who helped define the aesthetic of Dark Horse’s licensed properties. Like many entries in the series, the design and editorial direction favored a gritty, cinematic visual language, intended to push the boundaries of what could be depicted in monthly comic book anthologies while maintaining continuity with the dark, atmospheric tone of the original films.
