Where it came from
Dark Horse Presents #85 was published in April 1994 as part of Dark Horse Comics' long-running anthology series. The series served as a foundational platform for independent creators, often acting as a launchpad for experimental storytelling and creator-owned projects that contrasted with the mainstream superhero output of the era.
This specific issue is notable for featuring segments of Frank Miller’s Sin City, titled The Babe Wore Red. Miller’s work on the series utilized a signature high-contrast black-and-white noir aesthetic, which played a crucial role in establishing the visual identity of the Sin City saga. The anthology format allowed Miller to experiment with pacing and thematic grit that would eventually define the aesthetic of modern neo-noir comics.
