Where it came from
Das Paris der Wunder, known in its original French as Paris des Merveilles, is a fantasy trilogy written by Pierre Pevel. The third installment, originally titled Le Paris des Merveilles: Le Chevalier d’Éon, continues the urban fantasy narrative set in a Belle Époque version of Paris where magic and mythical creatures coexist alongside historical figures. The series was designed to blend the aesthetic of early 20th-century French literature with high fantasy, creating a world where the intrigue of the French court meets the wonder of the faerie realm.
The series has been widely praised for its immersive world-building and its ability to weave historical Parisian geography with imaginative magical elements. Pierre Pevel is celebrated for his precise prose and his contribution to French fantasy literature, and the third volume serves as a critical culmination of the story arcs established in the first two books. It was received as a standout entry in the steampunk and fantasy genres, solidifying Pevel's reputation for meticulous, atmospheric storytelling.
