Where it came from
David, a series created by the artist David Shrigley, emerged from the intersection of contemporary fine art and independent publishing. The series characteristically employs Shrigley's signature lo-fi aesthetic, utilizing stark, minimalist line drawings and deadpan, often absurd, handwritten text to explore the mundane anxieties of modern existence.
This specific issue, part of the wider body of work Shrigley produced to satirize traditional comic book structures, reflects the artist's interest in subverting institutional expectations of the medium. It was designed to function as both a standalone art object and a critique of narrative conventions, garnering critical appreciation within the contemporary art world for its raw, unfiltered approach to storytelling.
