DC Comics Presents #42

DC Comics Presents #42, released in February 1982, was part of a long-running anthology series designed to pair Superman with various characters from across the DC Universe. This specific issue serves as a team-up between the Man of Steel and the Legion of Super-Heroes, reflecting the mid-career era of editor Julius Schwartz, who oversaw the title’s commitment to imaginative, often self-contained science-fiction narratives.

The issue features artwork by Rich Buckler and Romeo Tanghal, with a script by Paul Levitz, a writer widely celebrated for his definitive work on the Legion of Super-Heroes. By the early 1980s, the Legion had become a central pillar of DC’s cosmic storytelling, and this collaboration was intended to leverage the popularity of the 30th-century team to provide readers with a high-stakes adventure that balanced classic superhero tropes with the complex continuity of the futuristic setting.
