Where it came from
Published by DC Comics in 1977, DC Super Stars #17 served as a showcase for the Huntress, a character reimagined by writer Paul Levitz and artist Joe Staton. This issue was part of a transitional period for DC, which utilized the anthology-style Super Stars series to test new concepts and highlight reimagined versions of classic Golden Age characters within the established DC multiverse framework.
The design and narrative direction were centered on establishing Helena Wayne as the daughter of Batman and Catwoman from the Earth-Two reality. Staton’s visual interpretation of the Huntress costume—a dark, sleek design emphasizing her athletic capabilities—was met with positive reception from readers, ultimately leading to the character becoming a staple of the Justice Society of America and maintaining a dedicated following for decades.
