Where it came from
Published by DC Comics in 1978, DC Special Series #5 features an iconic team-up between Batman and the Incredible Hulk. This oversized treasury-style comic was the result of a rare and highly anticipated intercompany crossover between DC and Marvel, capturing the height of the comic industry's crossover era. It was crafted to provide readers with a blockbuster spectacle, uniting two of the world's most famous superheroes in a high-stakes battle against the Joker and the Shaper of Worlds.
The issue was written by Len Wein and illustrated by the legendary Dick Giordano and José Luis García-López. Their goal was to balance the grounded, tactical nature of Batman with the explosive, unchecked power of the Hulk within a single narrative frame. The title was received with significant enthusiasm by collectors and fans alike, serving as a definitive relic of the bronze age of comics and standing as a landmark example of how two different comic book universes could successfully intersect.
