Where it came from
The Denver series, published by Éditions du Lombard, emerged during the late 1980s as a vibrant entry into the European Franco-Belgian comics tradition. It reflects the era's fascination with whimsical, anthropomorphic storytelling, functioning as a bridge between the classic adventures of the mid-century and the more character-driven comedic arcs that defined the publisher's output during that period.
Created by the artist Christian Godard, the series is characterized by its lighthearted aesthetic and clear-line drafting style. Denver was designed to appeal to younger readers through accessible narrative structures and expressive character designs, and while the series maintained a modest but loyal following, it remains a charming example of the experimental vitality found in the European comic market during the late 1980s.
