Devil's Due 25th Anniversary Special #1

The Devil's Due 25th Anniversary Special #1 was released to celebrate the quarter-century milestone of the G.I. Joe comic book franchise, specifically highlighting the era when Devil's Due Publishing held the license. Published in the mid-2000s, the issue was designed to serve as a bridge between the classic Marvel-era G.I. Joe stories and the contemporary interpretations that the publisher had cultivated since 2001. It acted as both a nostalgic retrospective and a platform for new storytelling within the expansive military-action universe that had captured a dedicated fanbase for decades.

The creative direction for the special issue leaned into the gritty, modern aesthetic that defined the Devil's Due tenure. The editorial team sought to honor the legacy of the original Larry Hama-penned series while showcasing the evolved, sharper illustration styles that characterized comic book art during the early 2000s. While it was received primarily as a celebratory tribute for long-term fans of the license, it remains a notable piece for collectors focusing on the shifting publishing history of G.I. Joe, marking a distinct transitional period before the license eventually moved to IDW Publishing.
