Where it came from
Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft, often abbreviated as DDSH, is a long-running German comic book series first published by Ehapa in 1965. The series was designed to bring high-quality Disney comics to a German audience, moving beyond the standard weekly magazine format to provide a dedicated space for longer, more elaborate stories by renowned creators like Carl Barks and Don Rosa. The format was specifically chosen to foster a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind Donald Duck lore, serving as a cornerstone of European Disney fandom for decades.
Issue number 103, released in the early 1980s, fits squarely within the series' established tradition of curating a mix of classic international material. Like other numbers in this collection, it highlights the stylistic evolution of Disney comics during the transition from the mid-century era into more modern layouts. These issues are highly regarded by collectors today, not only for the specific narratives contained within but as vital artifacts of a period when the German comic market significantly influenced the global dissemination and critical reception of Barks' influential work.
