Where it came from
Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft, often referred to as DDSH, began its run in 1965 as a German comic series dedicated to showcasing high-quality Disney stories, particularly those featuring Donald Duck and his extended family. Issue number 105, published in the mid-1980s, continues the series' long-standing tradition of curating a mix of classic international content, often prioritizing the work of celebrated Disney artists like Carl Barks or Don Rosa alongside various European creators.
The editorial philosophy behind the Sonderheft series was to provide a premium space for longer, more adventurous narrative arcs that did not fit the format of the standard weekly Mickey Mouse comics. The design maintained a distinct, pocket-sized aesthetic that became iconic in German pop culture, aiming to position the comics as collectible reading material rather than disposable ephemera. It was warmly received by German comic fans for its consistent focus on narrative depth and artistic excellence.
