Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft #291

Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft, often referred to as the 'DDSH' series, began publication in 1965 as a German-language comic book series centered on the duck characters of the Disney universe. Issue #291 is part of this long-running collection, which gained significant cultural traction in Germany by focusing on high-quality reprints of classic stories, particularly those illustrated by Carl Barks and later Don Rosa. These digests were instrumental in establishing a dedicated adult collector base for Disney comics in the German-speaking market, moving beyond the children-focused content of standard Mickey Mouse magazines.

The aesthetic of the Sonderheft series is defined by its compact digest format and the preservation of original ink-and-paint styles from the mid-20th century. Issue #291 follows the established editorial tradition of curating a mix of shorter gags and longer adventures that showcase the distinct personalities of Donald Duck and his nephews. The series has been critically praised for its role in archiving foundational Disney comic history, and it remains a staple of European comic collecting due to the consistency of its editorial direction and the enduring appeal of the classic duck artists.
