Doll Oji: #Doll ni Hamatta Ojisan no Hanashi #1

Doll Oji: #Doll ni Hamatta Ojisan no Hanashi, written and illustrated by mangaka Keiko Notoyama, began serialization to explore the nuanced and often misunderstood world of adult doll hobbyists. The narrative centers on a middle-aged protagonist whose life is transformed through the meticulous care and customization of ball-jointed dolls, reflecting a growing cultural interest in the intersection of niche collecting and personal emotional solace in modern Japan.

The series is noted for its gentle, observational approach to its subject matter, avoiding judgment while detailing the technical aspects of doll maintenance and the social dynamics of the hobby community. The visual style features expressive, character-focused linework that emphasizes the contrast between the rigid, aesthetic perfection of the dolls and the human vulnerabilities of their owners, earning it recognition for bringing visibility to a dedicated but private subculture.
