Dracula Versus Zorro #1

Dracula Versus Zorro #1 was published by Topps Comics in 1993 as part of an ambitious effort to expand the publisher's licensed properties beyond its core baseball card business. This crossover miniseries emerged during a period in the early 1990s when intercompany crossovers and mash-up concepts were highly prevalent in the comic book industry, often leveraging established public domain characters to drive interest in boutique independent titles.

The series was written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated by Ricardo Villagrán, with a distinct visual style intended to evoke the pulp adventure aesthetic of early twentieth-century cinema. The creative team aimed to blend the gothic horror atmosphere of Bram Stoker’s classic antagonist with the swashbuckling, heroic tropes of Johnston McCulley’s masked vigilante. While the project was met with mild curiosity upon release, it remains a notable example of the high-concept storytelling experimentation that characterized the smaller publishing houses of the mid-1990s comic book boom.
