Where it came from
The Shinsō Sairokuban edition of Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken was released between 2020 and 2021 to commemorate the launch of the 2020 anime adaptation. This reprint series was designed to bundle the original serialization, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1989 to 1996, into a refined format for a modern audience. The aesthetic overhaul included new cover art by illustrator Koji Inada, who worked closely with writer Riku Sanjo to provide a contemporary look while respecting the series' classic fantasy roots.
Volume 15 serves as a significant installment in this re-release, capturing the high-stakes narrative arc of the original epic. Upon its release, the Shinsō Sairokuban was well-received by both long-time fans seeking a high-quality archival version and new readers drawn in by the anime. The collection is notable for its premium printing quality and consistent artistic direction, which successfully bridged the gap between the 1990s manga era and modern reader expectations.
