Drama Queen #7

Drama Queen #7 is a notable entry in the independent anthology series that emerged during the late 1990s as a platform for autobiographical storytelling. The series was rooted in the 'zinester' culture of the era, which prioritized raw, personal narratives and distinctive visual styles over the polished aesthetics of mainstream comics. This specific issue served as an exploration of the creator's experiences, maintaining the series' reputation for intimate and relatable character studies.

The design and artistic direction were helmed by Aline Kominsky-Crumb, whose work is characterized by an uncompromising, self-deprecating, and often jagged aesthetic. By choosing a style that intentionally eschewed conventional beauty, Kominsky-Crumb aimed to dismantle traditional archetypes of women in comics. Upon its release, the issue was received as a candid piece of underground literature, lauded by peers for its contribution to the confessional comics movement.
