Draw This, Then Die! #1

Draw This, Then Die! #1 emerged from the underground comix culture of the late 1990s, a period defined by a surge in self-published, transgressive, and niche independent titles. The series was designed as a direct response to the era's fascination with horror-themed meta-fiction and interactive storytelling, inviting readers to engage with provocative narratives that subverted traditional comic book tropes through a blend of dark humor and visceral, low-fidelity illustration.

The publication was created during a time when small-press creators sought to challenge the mainstream comics industry by leaning into overtly provocative or experimental subject matter. While the series remains a cult item within the independent publishing circuit, its design reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of DIY zine culture, prioritizing raw visual impact and thematic audacity over polished production values. It is regarded by collectors of underground press as a distinct artifact of that specific subcultural moment.
