Earth X #6

Earth X #6 was published in 1999 as part of a limited series masterminded by Alex Ross and writer Jim Krueger. The series emerged from a conceptual pitch by Ross, who envisioned a dystopian, interconnected future for the Marvel Universe where nearly everyone possesses superpowers, leading to a profound collapse of society. The narrative was heavily influenced by the visual sensibilities of Kingdom Come, prioritizing a gritty, realistic aesthetic that contrasted sharply with the typical comic book house style of the late nineties.

The interior art was executed by John Paul Leon, whose distinct, shadow-heavy style brought a grounded and somber tone to the series. Ross provided the iconic painted covers, which remain the visual hallmark of the project. Upon its release, Earth X was critically lauded for its dense, philosophical storytelling and its departure from traditional superhero tropes. The series has since become a seminal work in the alt-future subgenre of Marvel comics, frequently cited for its intricate world-building and character redesigns.
