Where it came from
Eden: It's an Endless World, created by Hiroki Endo, originally serialized in Monthly Afternoon magazine starting in 1997. The series is a cyberpunk post-apocalyptic narrative that explores complex philosophical themes regarding human nature and societal collapse. The Master Edition serves as a premium, larger-format reprint series published by Dark Horse Comics to bring Endo's dense, highly detailed artwork to a wider international audience, consolidating multiple original volumes into single collector-grade hardcovers.
The design of the Master Edition is intentionally utilitarian yet sophisticated, mirroring the bleak and gritty atmosphere of Endo's world. By utilizing higher-quality paper stock and a clean, minimalist layout, the publishers aimed to emphasize the intricate linework and expansive world-building that defined the series' cult status. Critical reception has consistently praised the work for its technical mastery and its challenging, non-moralistic approach to science fiction storytelling.
