Exiles #38

Exiles #38, published by Marvel Comics in early 2004, is part of a series centered on a group of mutants jumping through alternate realities to correct disruptions in the multiverse. This specific issue features the 'Legacy' story arc, focusing on the character Mimic and the team's ongoing struggle with the moral compromises required by their mission. The series was designed as a creative sandbox, allowing writers to explore dark or inverted versions of established Marvel characters without affecting the primary continuity.

The issue features writing by Tony Bedard and artwork by Jim Calafiore, who took over duties to provide a consistent, gritty visual identity for the multidimensional travels. The design approach focused on high-stakes character drama rather than traditional superhero tropes, a direction that garnered a loyal cult following. Critical reception of the series during this period often highlighted the book's ability to maintain a sense of genuine danger for its protagonists, distinguishing it from the more static hero-led titles of the era.
