Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser #3

This issue is part of the 1973 comic book adaptation published by DC Comics, which brought Fritz Leiber’s iconic sword-and-sorcery duo into the medium of sequential art. The series was developed during a period of rising interest in adult-oriented fantasy literature, seeking to capture the cynical humor and dynamic chemistry between the towering barbarian Fafhrd and the agile thief Mouser that had captivated readers of the original serialized tales since the 1930s.

The adaptation was notable for the creative collaboration between writer Denny O'Neil and artist Howard Chaykin, who utilized a cinematic, stylized aesthetic to reflect the grittiness of the setting, Lankhmar. The series was designed to push the boundaries of what a fantasy comic could look like, moving away from the more traditional heroic tropes of the era. While short-lived, it remains a respected artifact for its role in bridging pulp fantasy and the mainstream comic industry.
