Where it came from
Fantastic Four #237 was published by Marvel Comics in December 1981, emerging during a period of creative transition for the series. Written and illustrated by John Byrne, this issue is a notable entry in his acclaimed run, which is often credited by fans and critics for revitalizing the title by returning the team to its core dynamics while introducing sophisticated character development and high-stakes cosmic threats.
Byrne’s design and artistic direction for this era focused on a clean, dynamic style that balanced traditional superhero action with the interpersonal drama that defined the Fantastic Four. This particular issue follows the team as they contend with the complex fallout of their galactic adventures, reflecting the thematic depth Byrne sought to instill in the characters to ground their increasingly fantastic experiences.
