Where it came from
Fantastic Four #28 was published by Marvel Comics in July 1964, arriving during the height of the Silver Age of comic books. At this stage in the series, creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were deeply invested in establishing the Fantastic Four as a dysfunctional yet heroic family unit. This issue featured a pivotal confrontation with the Puppet Master and the Mad Thinker, illustrating the team's ongoing struggle against complex, tactical adversaries rather than simple villains.
The cover and interior artwork reflect Jack Kirby’s signature dynamic compositions, characterized by bold action sequences and imaginative technology. Kirby’s visual language during this era was instrumental in defining the Marvel aesthetic, emphasizing a sense of epic scale. The issue was received as a standard but solid entry in the series, contributing to the consistent world-building that solidified the Fantastic Four’s enduring position within the Marvel Universe.
