Fantastic Four #388

Fantastic Four issue 388, published by Marvel Comics in May 1994, emerged during the high-octane creative era of the early nineties. As part of the long-running series created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, this issue fell under the stewardship of writer Tom DeFalco and artist Paul Ryan. The narrative fits into the 'Atlantis Rising' era, a period defined by complex geopolitical tensions between the Fantastic Four and the underwater kingdom of Namor the Sub-Mariner, reflecting the series' enduring commitment to exploring familial friction alongside cosmic stakes.

The visual direction of this period was characterized by Paul Ryan's clean, structured approach to superhero anatomy and architectural detail, which provided a traditional grounded aesthetic during a decade often dominated by more experimental or gritty stylistic choices. The issue was received as a standard entry in DeFalco's lengthy tenure on the title, maintaining the established character dynamics of the team while advancing the ongoing subplots involving the Human Torch and his romantic and political entanglements.
