Fantasy Features #1

Fantasy Features #1 was released in 1952 by Eerie Publications, emerging during a period when the American comic book industry was heavily leaning into horror and fantasy anthologies. This publication was part of a wave of inexpensive newsstand comics designed to capitalize on the public appetite for macabre and speculative fiction before the implementation of the Comics Code Authority in 1954 forced many publishers in this genre to shut down or significantly sanitize their content.

The aesthetic of this issue reflects the era’s pulp-inspired illustration style, characterized by high-contrast ink work and dramatic, sometimes lurid cover art intended to grab a reader's attention from a busy rack. While the specific artists behind the interiors were often uncredited in these early independent horror titles, the work is representative of the house style of Eerie’s mid-century production, which prioritized sensational storytelling over the prestige branding seen in larger publishing houses of the time.
